Early Voting Ends Saturday — Here's What's on Your Nov. 3 Ballot

If you haven't voted yet, the clock's ticking. Early voting runs through Saturday, Oct. 31, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., at five Port St. Lucie sites: the IRSC Veterans Center of Excellence, the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center, Paula A. Lewis Library, the PSL Community Center, and the Robert E. Minsky Gym. The county's Supervisor of Elections also lists one extended day — Sunday, Nov. 1, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. — before polls open countywide on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

Two local questions are worth knowing before you fill in a bubble. First: St. Lucie County and PSL are asking voters to renew the half-cent infrastructure sales tax two years early, so there's no funding gap if a later vote fails. Voters approved the tax in 2018 with about 56% support, and the City Council and County Commission have already given renewal unanimous preliminary approval while they finalize 10-year public-works wish lists.

Second is a PSL-only straw poll on trash pickup: should the city move from once- to twice-weekly residential collection — adding Saturday pickup and raising the solid-waste fee by at least $131 a year starting in 2028? It's non-binding; Council still makes the final call. But it's a direct read on how much PSL residents are willing to pay for more frequent service.

What it means for PSL: Early voting closes Saturday evening; miss it, and Tuesday's your day. Either way, these two questions shape what PSL pays for trash pickup and infrastructure for years to come.

Linda Kloorfain (incoming) and Maddie Williams (retiring), St. Lucie Cultural Alliance executive directors
Linda Kloorfain took over as executive director of the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance on Oct. 1, succeeding longtime leader Maddie Williams, who retired. Kloorfain steps in just as the Alliance heads into its busy winter arts-and-events season.
Our take: Worth watching: whether new leadership brings changes to the Alliance's Art Walk and festival programming heading into 2027.

PSL Parks & Recreation Earns National Reaccreditation
CAPRA Accredited badge, Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies
On Oct. 13, Port St. Lucie's Parks and Recreation Department earned reaccreditation through CAPRA — the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies, under the National Recreation and Park Association. It's a distinction held by only a small share of agencies nationwide.
Our take: The kind of behind-the-scenes quality check that never makes headlines but shapes how your local parks are run and funded.

The International Festivals & Events Association named Port St. Lucie one of just seven cities worldwide — alongside Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and McAllen, Texas — to receive its 2026 World Festival & Event City Award, presented Oct. 5. The city's Communications and Special Events teams also picked up eight IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards this year, including golds for the MLK Celebration and Eggstravaganza materials.
Our take: A nice reminder that River Nights, Fall Fun Fest, and the rest of PSL's event calendar are getting noticed well outside the 772.

Treasure Coast Halloween Legends
This week, PSL Reimagined trades the “what if” for real local lore. We dug up four spooky stories neighbors still tell every October — a window-watching figure at Fort Pierce’s 1909 Boston House, a theater ghost nicknamed “Lenny” at Indian River State College, a phantom usher at the 1926 Sunrise Theater, and a bonus cameo from Florida’s own cryptid, the Skunk Ape.
